Bring it Back in the Balkans

Sorry for the lack of posts over the last few weeks, honestly since leaving Paris I have had little to write about as I have had not much worth writing about.

So what has happened in my life since I said 'au revior' to Paris, well, after I moved back home I had two weeks to sort my life out, clear out my childhood bedroom and get a jump start on my dissertation (more on that to follow I'm sure).

Krujer Castle, Albania

After about 3 days I was tearing my hair out with boredom but soon enough my brand new sparkly internship in London began - I am now working as the Restricted Funding Intern for The British Red Cross. While I have only been there for 2 weeks now, I think I am beginning to get to grips with it, but I am planning to write a full post on it towards the end of my time there in August.

Budva, Montenegro

Anyway, to the point of this post, yesterday I returned from a week-long road trip through the Western Balkans; arriving into Sarajevo Airport in Bosnia and Herzegovina, we drove through the mountains to Montenegro, Albania, back through Montenegro and along the coast to Croatia before returning to Bosnia.

Mountains of Budva, Montengro

The trip consisted of Airbnb hopping from staying in riverside lake houses in Ulcinj, city centre apartment in Tirana, Albania, a coastal villa in Budva, Montenegro, suburban flats in Dubrovnik, and old town communist buildings in Sarajevo.

Flights into Sarajevo were £220 per person, connecting through Zurich on Swiss Airlines and accommodation costs came to a further £200 per person (for 6 people).

Dubrovnik, Croatia

For us, this was one of the first times we were driving on the other side of the road on the other side of the car, and although there were only a few issues with the police (!) we just about managed our way round in one piece.

Copacabana Beach, Dubrovnik

From ruined castles to communist history, sparkling blue coastlines with Game of Thrones tourists to unexplored cities, the Western Balkans are an underrated European gem and I would recommend it to anyone thinking of a road trip on a budget.

Have a good week my loves!

Lots of Love, Kate xxx
